Almost two full weeks in Kigali, Rwanda, and life is so sweet here!!!! Highlights below ⬇️
We live in a little guest house owned by our ministry hosts, and we mainly work right there as well. We serve alongside a sewing school of ten women, and each morning we lead devotions and then teach them english! In the afternoons we get to spend time with them, whether doing laundry and dishes or learning new games and jumping rope. They are full of so much life and joy and deep faith and they have welcomed us into their daily lives. We just love being with them!!
This past week, we got to spend two days at schools in Kigali — Rehoboth Christian School and Blessing Academy. I have truly never felt so loved and welcomed as I did at those schools. We got to help serve breakfast, teach, worship with them, learn some African dances, and get so so many hugs! Adding lots of pictures from these days because they are just too precious!!!!!
Last week we went to a Rwandan church where our host Nicole attends. Once again, the level of welcome we received was unbelievable. We walked in after the service had already started and immediately someone went to the front and began to translate the entire service for us! They had us stand and someone came and prayed over each of us, and after the service we got to meet so many church members and then help pass out school supplies to the kids in the church. Rwandan people truly do hospitality like no other.
There have been several days where we have had free time and have gone out into the village evangelizing. It is truly remarkable how eager people are for the Gospel here. The very first day we spent in Rwanda, we were on a walk and began talking to this man sitting outside of his shop. He seemed to be eager to learn, but he did not speak any english. After trying to communicate for a bit, we turned around, and there was a woman who had just walked up who began to translate everything for us! After praying with the man, she told us she is a disciple of Christ and wanted to continue to walk with us and translate! God is so good to us!! A few days ago, we set out again into the village and met some men who spoke some english. We talked with them and prayed and as we were about to leave, one of the men stopped us to ask how he could accept Jesus. These people yearn for the Lord and what a gift it is to be a vessel for Him.
In our free time, we frequently visit Java House, our favorite coffee shop here. They have lots of yummy food and drinks — my current favorite being the passion fruit nojito! It is such a great place to enjoy food and fellowship with our team and we have loved getting to know the waitstaff there. We also love walking to the supermarket!! I have spent many afternoons walking there for some dark chocolate :) We have gotten better at basic conversational kinyarwandan so we have lots of fun going on walks and chatting with everyone we walk past.
Only ten days left in Rwanda but the people here have already taught me so much about being interruptible and hospitable and eager to learn and open to receiving love. I have lots to learn from them.
Thanks for reading. I appreciate your love & prayers & texts more than you know. Love you all ❣️
